Ma’Khia Bryant’s heartbroken biological mom has spoken out to reveal that her daughter was shot dead in front of her younger sister.
16-year-old Ma’Khia was shot several times by the police after lunging a knife at another teenage girl while officers were responding to her call for help.
According to 42-year-old Paula Bryant, Ma’Khia was fatally shot in front of her younger sister, 15-year-old Janiah, who will now have to live with the image of her sister getting shot for the rest of her life.
“Janiah’s sister was shot in front of her, she was there, they lived together. They were placed in care together,” the mother explained.
“Janiah has said to me it happened so fast. Ma’Khia was her best friend, they were almost like twin sisters. She’s crying constantly, she’s grieving. She said, mommy, I couldn’t save Ma’Khia.”
In a touching interview with DailyMail.com, Paula went on to recall her last conversation with Ma’Khia as she revealed the last thing she ever said to her daughter was: “Honey, I love you.”
“The last thing I said to her was, honey I love you,” the grieving mom told the publication.
“We were talking about hair and make-up. We were talking about her smile, she was smiling, and her beautiful curly hair.
“She said, mommy, I love you. I miss you so much, you’re a good mom. That was the last time I saw her alive, the last time I spoke to her.”
According to Paula, she only learned of the devastating news after her daughter Janiah called her to tell her what had happened.
“Janiah said mommy, I need you, I have something to tell you, Ma’Khia has been shot. She was crying, she couldn’t talk properly, she was just crying and screaming and telling me ‘I love you, I love you.’”
