It’s a great thing to make sure that the people who serve our needs are doing well too. In the city of Marietta, Georgia, Floyd Martin, who is the mailman is known for providing his service to the community for 35 years.
After graduating from his high school, Martin started working at the bank and then decided to take a postal service test.
He was offered a position with double pay by USPS, and he immediately took the opportunity and started delivering letters and packages.
The best part about his service was that he believed in adding a personal touch while interacting with the residents.
Martin generously used to share lollipops with the kids and treats with the animals.
He used to take care of all the residents by putting newspapers in front of the doorsteps so that the elderly won’t have to go through the trouble of going out to pick it up.
Martin’s service route had 500 houses, where he used to connect with the residents with kindness. When Martin decided to share about his retirement with the residents, they in return decided to reward him for his work.
Many residents decorated their mailboxes and also put gifts in them for Martin so that when he comes on his last day, he’ll see them.
A block party was thrown where all the 500 households were invited, and people came to hug Martin with gifts. More than 300 people showed support to Martin for his dedication since last so many years.
Trish Nicolas, who is one of the residents, said that he has been an important part of this community since last many years and praised him for his work. Another resident said that even though she cannot see well because of dementia but she knows Floyd really well.
The best part was when the residents fulfilled Martin’s dream of going to Hawaii. Amanda Dian Seals started a GoFundMe page for fulfilling Martin’s dream.
Every resident made an effort to make sure that Martin knows how grateful they are for his service and how much they all love him. The Fund page raised more than its goal as the goal was around $5,000, but over four days, $32,822 was raised.
Martin has definitely made space in these people’s heart, and he totally deserves this holiday.
