A loyal dog has gone viral after it was caught on camera waiting on a bridge for its owner’s return for days after the owner took their own life.

The heart-wrenching moment occurred in Wuhan, China, where a local known by the surname of Xu spotted a dog sitting at the side of the bridge as if it was waiting for someone.

As the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association later found out, the surveillance footage captured the dog’s owner jumping off the bridge on May 30.

“We asked the bridge officers to check what exactly happened. It was really dark, couldn’t see much on the surveillance footage … the person jumped straight away,” Du Fan of the WSAPA said in an interview with Pear Video.

According to the local reports, the dog had been waiting on the bridge for several days before running away when approached by Mr. Xu who wanted to adopt the loyal companion.

While animal rescuers have vowed to find the dog and provide it with a new owner, the pooch had still been missing as of Tuesday according to a MailOnline report.

“We still hope to find a new owner for the dog. We think it’s too sad for such a loyal dog to stray on the streets,” Du expressed.

After the heartbreaking story of the orphaned dog went viral, people were quick to praise the pooch for its loyalty whereas many suggested they would be willing to adopt the dog themselves.
