A loyal dog had been patiently waiting at the hospital where his owner had died for three months before he was taken to an animal shelter.
7-year-old Xiao Bao is a precious pooch that arrived at the Wuhan Taikang Hospital in China together with his owner when the elderly man got admitted for COVID-19.
After his owner passed away from the disease, Xiao allegedly refused to leave the premises and stayed around for months following his owner’s death according to 65-year-old hospital worker Zhu Youzhen.
Fortunately, the staff would feed Xiao whenever he got hungry.
After lockdown restrictions in Wuhan were lifted, the orphaned pooch came into the care of shopkeeper Wu Cuifen.
“I first noticed the little dog when I returned to work in the middle of April. I called him ‘Xiao Bao,’” the kind woman said.
“They told me Xiao Bao’s owner, a pensioner, was admitted with the coronavirus. Then he passed away, but Xiao Bao didn’t know and just stayed in the hospital looking for him.
“It never left the hospital. It was incredibly touching, and so loyal. I grew familiar with the dog and later brought him into the shop.”
As the woman went on to say, Xiao would wait for her to open the store every day and see her off as she finished her shift.
After the staff started receiving complaints about the dog’s presence at the hospital, the workers were forced to call Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association who took the pooch to a shelter.
According to the reports, Xiao was thoroughly checked by the vets and prepared for rehoming whereas the shelter was flooded with offers to foster the loyal dog.
