A loyal pooch was found watching over his dog friend’s body after she got hit by a vehicle on a road and succumbed to her injuries.
The incident occurred in Texas where the Kingsville-Kleberg Health Department Animal Control & Care Center staff were called to attend a “heart wrenching” scene.
As the workers arrived at the scene of the accident, they immediately noticed a dog protecting the lifeless body of another pooch.
In one of the heartbreaking photos, the dog, whom the rescuers named Guardian, is seen laying his paw over his dead friend.
“A call came in for a deceased dog this morning. This was the scene our Animal Control Officers drove up to. This boy wasn’t going to let anyone mess with his sister,” the rescuers wrote in a Facebook post.
“Our ACOs had a hard time convincing him everything was going to be alright and they were there to help him. This call was one of the most heart wrenching for our staff, but we thought we’d share some behind the scene images of situations they are faced with on a regular basis.”
After securing Guardian and bringing him in, the staff of the shelter assured that the Catahoula mix was already set up for adoption.
While they admitted the dog had a hard time understanding what’s going on at first, the rescuers confirmed that he’s been fed and provided with the necessary care.
