Loggers Took Lives Of Dozens Of Koalas After 8,000 Were Wiped Out By Bushfires


Only weeks after devastating bushfires took the lives of thousands of koalas, dozens more have been killed by loggers.

According to Helen Oakley, dozens of koalas are killed and another 60 are severely injured after a plantation in Victoria was bulldozed.

The registered nurse surveed the area and said it ‘smelt like death.’ She also said that she had seen dead and injured koalas in the property.

Ms. Oakley said that the logging company “bulldozed 140 acres now and have just killed all of our koalas.”

She added: “There are koalas lying there dead.  Mothers killed with their little babies.”

Ms. Oakley added: “Australia should be ashamed of this… We need help.”

Andy Medic, the local MP for the region, saw the photos of dead koalas that went viral and said he would do everything he could within his electorate to save the surviving animals and get to the bottom of the situation.

He said: “As bushfires ravage parts of our state, killing millions of native animals, a bluegum plantation full of koalas is being cleared in my electorate of Western Victoria.

“According to local sources, hundreds of koalas have been impacted. Some have been killed, many injured.”

He also said that a law was passed and made it mandatory for businesses or individuals to report koala deaths.

“I know how distressing this is, and thank you to all who have raised it with me. I promise I’ll do all I can.”

In an interview with Yahoo News, Ms. Oakley said that injured koalas had to be put down after they were rescued.

“The surviving koalas are being brought down from trees and the vets are checking them for hydration and malnutrition as they’re all covered in ticks… a lot of them had to be euthanized,” she expressed.

“I’ve never seen so many koalas in a concentrated area like this and so much death and smell. I started thinking if these were humans what this would be like and I just lost it.”
