Littlehampton’s Blind Grandmother Survived Out Of A Stroke Of Luck After A Car Crashed Into Her Living Room


Joan Blackwood who is 62 survived a car crash at her own home.

She lives in a flat in Floyd’s corner, surrey street, Littlehampton. She had lost her sight in 1993 and now she can hardly see things as she has only 10% sight.

Joan Blackwood who is known as blind grandmother was sitting in her bed and suddenly a car hit the wall of her house.

The car did not enter her house but hit the external wall of the flat as the car was passing by in the street and mistakenly hit the outer wall. It was 7:30 am and Grandmother Joan was not aware of what has happened.

The point where the car hit the wall was her CD point and thus it was destroyed however her chair remained in the same place.

Her bureau was also destroyed and a hole of 4ft by 2ft was created. She was lucky that she was not sitting on the chair where she normally sits in the middle of the day.

After the attack, a foreign gentleman came inside and tried to explain to the old lady that what has happed with her wall.

Grandmother was unable to understand him as what he was trying to say. She thought he was informing her about a big bang.

Grandmother asked him to let her know about the big bang when it is going to happen and she is going to her bed.

After half an hour police came they rang the doorbell and entered the living room.

She explained to Joan about the situation and she told them that she was listening to the radio and had no idea that his accident had happened. After knowing the situation she went in shock and the police left.

After that Grandmother Joan called her son named Michael Blackwood who is 39 years old.

Michael explained to his mother that the car that hit their wall was dragged behind and now they must close the hole.

So Michael called the group who owned their building. Hyde group told that the first surveyors will arrive and till 7: 30 pm they did not arrive.

Michael was of the view that anybody can creep into their house because the hole was quite big. But the housing association told that the surveyors will visit till 8 pm.

Joan had been living in her flat for 17 years but this kind of incident happened for the first time.
