The teachers did not notice the fish until snack time when Peyton started drinking water from her cup while her pet was swimming inside.

When Connor asked if the fish had survived, the mother said: “Yup… (it’s) alive. She apparently scooped it out of the tank, put it in her sippy cup and went to school.”

Lauren said in the text messages: “At snack time, she drank it and the teacher noticed something in it. She forgot it was in there.”

The mother also told Today Parents that she was left ‘mortified’ by the incident.

“I said no, I had no idea that Peyton had brought her fish in a sippy cup. I was mortified. I didn’t know what to say.”

Lauren said that earlier that morning, her daughter acted very suspiciously. She noticed that Peyton had spilled some fish food on the ground and thought that was the reason why she was acting weird.

“I told her it’s okay, that I would clean up, and then I didn’t think anything of it,” she continued.

“Peyton put her water in her backpack and we went to school.”

When she asked Peyton why she brought her fish to preschool, the little girl said it was because she ‘loves Mermaid so much.’
