Depending on your temperament, shopping at the supermarket can be a lot like mowing the lawn or taking out the garbage.
A necessary but not really fun activity.
But that may now change with Lidl announcing that they are planning to put up a pub beside one of their new stores. The store in question is located in Dundonald in Belfast and added that they plan to offer off-license service with a public house.
There is a planned separate entrance to the supermarket. The pub is reported to have seating, a bar area, and even separate toilets. There will also be an off-license area so that you can buy alcohol to take home.
There have been no announcements regarding what products will be on offer and the price range but given Lidl’s image as a budget store, supermarket fans are hoping the alcohol will be cheap.
A Lidl spokesperson said: “Lidl can confirm it has lodged an application to open licensed premises within our Dundonald store. This will offer shoppers an off-license service along with a public house.
“As the fastest-growing retailer in Northern Ireland, we believe Dundonald shoppers should have the opportunity to access the same great value assortment currently enjoyed by thousands of shoppers in 37 other Lidl stores in Northern Ireland.”
If permission is granted, the women of Dundonald might find their better halves volunteering to do the groceries more than usual.
This brings up the interesting story of Jayne Tapper who put up a pub called “The Doghouse Inn” smack in the middle of her back garden to discourage her husband from making too many trips down to the local pub.
The couple now uses the pub to host parties.
Jayne, a nurse from Newton Abbot, Devon, said: “My husband Paul, an engineer, had always loved popping down to our local, and I could never seem to keep him at home.
“And so I got thinking – why not create my own pub, become my own landlady and then I can really tell people – my husband’s in the doghouse!”
Replaced!
