President Trump attended a NATO event in London earlier this week but things didn’t go quite as planned.
During the reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, other leaders from all around the world, most importantly Justin Trudeau, were caught on camera discussing him.
It is now confirmed officially by Justin Trudeau in a news conference that he along with other world leaders were talking about the POTUS.
The topic of their discussion was a lengthy press conference Trump held earlier that Tuesday, reported CNN.
In the video that recorded this incident, 55-year-old Johnson can be heard asking Macron, 41: “Is that why you were late?”
Macron replies with a nod, saying yes. While the Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau, 47, says: “He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top.”
The clip that is 25 seconds long then has some inaudible discussion, after which Trudeau says: “You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor.”
It must be noted that in the video, 73-year-old Trump was not mentioned by name or designation.
Photographs from the event show Johnson, Macron, Trudeau, and Princess Anne standing together, however, she can’t be heard speaking in the video.
Social media had a mixed response to the viral video of the world leaders talking about Trump.
Some compared it to the way Trump has commented about the world leaders previously while others tried to teach the participants of the video some manners.
“Can’t get over this video, both for the fact that POTUS hates the thought of anyone laughing at him and for the fact that he long used ‘other countries are laughing at us’ as an attack against his predecessors,” wrote Maggie Haberman, a reporter with New York Times.
Someone else wrote: “I can’t help of thinking about school children mocking and complaining about teacher. Let’s focus on the real issues, and dilute the ability to hold Trump accountable w/ facts and accuracy — this isn’t Housewives of NATO.”
The president’s eldest son, Trump Jr., took to Twitter to defend his father and criticize the Canadian Prime Minister.
And it didn’t take long for Trump to hit back at the Canadian leader.
The Washington Post reported that while answering questions at the NATO, Trump referred to the Canadian Prime Minister as ‘two-faced.’
“He’s two-faced,” said Trump, adding: “And honestly, with Trudeau, he’s a nice guy. I find him to be a very nice guy.
“But, you know, the truth is that I called him out on the fact that he’s not paying 2 percent [toward NATO defense commitments] and I guess he’s not very happy about it.”
The Canadian Prime Minister did acknowledge that he and others were talking about Trump in the video but also made it very clear that the bond between the USA and Canada is far stronger than the personal connection of two people.
“I have a very productive and positive relationship with Mr. Trump,” Tonda MacCharles, a reporter with Toronto Star, quoted Trudeau. “We will continue to have an excellent relationship.”
“I think that was an unscheduled announcement,” Trudeau added.
“Every different leader has teams who, every now and then, have their jaws drop at unscheduled surprises. Like that video itself, for example.”
The event was actually NATO’s 70th-anniversary reception.
It was hosted by the Queen herself in Buckingham Palace and was attended by a number of world leaders including Trump and his wife Melania.
Before the official reception for the event on Tuesday, the Royal family including Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Kate Middleton had tea with Trump and Melania at the Palace.
Trump’s London tour mostly consisted of meetings with important European leaders.
