Thousands of claimants from dozens of countries have sued the Chinese government for negligence in managing the coronavirus outbreak and its alleged cover-up.
The class-action lawsuit, in which China has been sued for $6 trillion, was filed last month in Florida by Berman Law Group and included thousands of claimants from 40 countries, including the US and the UK, according to the reports.
In the lawsuit, the Chinese Communist Party is accused of negligence in handling the coronavirus outbreak and failing to disclose vital information with the rest of the world.
As the chief strategist behind the lawsuit, Jeremy Alters, argued, the Chinese government “have unleashed hell on our communities” by hiding the truth about the epidemic.
“This lawsuit is based on the fact that they knew about this virus. They failed to contain the virus. They failed to let us know in a timely fashion about the virus and have unleashed hell on our communities, on our countries, the United States, Australia and everywhere else,” Alters said in Channel 9’s 60 Minutes.
“That money is not just governments losing money, that is people losing their jobs, that is people losing their homes, that is people losing their livelihoods, that is people being able to feed their children. That six trillion dollars isn’t coming back.”
The class action follows as the world grows increasingly discontent with the way China handled the outbreak in the country and how they conveyed, or failed to convey, vital information to the rest of the world.
