A lawyer was filmed spitting in the face of a 17-year-old teen during a Black Lives Matter protest in Shorewood, Wisconsin.
Before her interaction with the teen, 64-year-old Stephanie Rapkin parked her car in the middle of the intersection to block the BLM protest, which was heading south on North Oakland Avenue.
Rapkin was then filmed confronting a group of young protesters. Many cars were seen unable to move because the lawyer’s car was parked in the middle of the intersection of North Oakland Avenue and East of Jarvis Street.
Demonstrators can be heard calling her to move her vehicle.
The 64-year-old ignored the demands and walked on the sidewalk.
One protester followed Rapkin with her phone, saying: “She won’t move her car!” She then repeated: “She won’t move her car, so we can’t go.”
Rapkin even turned toward the female protester and shouted: “She won’t keep me safe. You won’t keep me safe. Move away from me. Move away from me.”
The lawyer can be seen shouting at one protester who asked her to go back to her car and let the march go on. One of the young demonstrators, Eric Patrick Lucas III, is seen shouting in Rapkin’s direction but it is not clear what he said.
The 64-year-old woman then spat on the teen’s face. Others tried to intervene and restrained the teen while urging the lawyer to go back to her car.
Rapkin was taken into custody later that evening. According to Milwaukee County officials, the 64-year-old wasn’t booked into the county jail because of coronavirus limitations.
Eric Patrick Lucas III, a junior at Shorewood High School, said to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “I continue to be mentally and physically shaken. To be assaulted by an adult in my own community during a pandemic was traumatic.”
He added: “Again and again, I am viewed not as a child but as a color.”
The lawyer was arrested again after she allegedly shoved a 21-year-old college student in front of her house.
A video shared by Debra Brehmer shows Rapkin confronting her 21-year-old son, Joe Friedman, who said he went to the lawyer’s block after hearing about the first arrest for spitting on a 17-year-old boy.
Friedman wrote in chalk on the sidewalk outside of the lawyer’s home: “Be better than this.” He also added: “I spit on a child. How dare you!”
Friedman said that the woman came out of her house and confronted him and others who had joined him. Rapkin told him that she only spat in response to being attacked by Lucas even though the footage clearly shows that her claims did not happen.
Rapkin was them filmed shoving Friedman in the chest. “Wow, I just got that on video ma’am,” a person at the scene said.
The 64-year-old lawyer resisted arrest and even kneed a cop in the groin when they tried to take her into custody, the Milkaukee Journal Sentinel reported. She was booked into the Milkaukee County Jail with a bail set at $950.
