A lawyer accidentally turned a cat filter on during a Zoom hearing for the 394th Judicial District Court of Brewster.

The hilarious video starts with presiding judge Roy Ferguson telling Texas attorney Rod Ponton: “I believe you have a filter turned on in video settings and you might want to turn it off.”

Ponton can be heard letting out a frustrated ‘ughh’ as the feline filter starts moving its mouth together with his voice.

With his voice shaking, the cat-emblazoned attorney asked: “Can you hear me judge?”

Judge Ferguson confirmed that he can hear Ponton, who then explained: “It is (a filter). And I don’t know how to remove it. I’ve got my assistant here, she’s trying to, but ahhh I’m prepared to go forward with it… I’m here live, I’m not a cat.”

Two other people at the hearing then started to laugh but Judge Ferguson kept a straight face, saying: “I can see that.”

The judge then calmly offered the panicking lawyer a step-by-step guide for how to turn the cat filter off.

In an interview with the San Antonio Express, Ponton said that he was using his secretary’s computer and it was the first time something like that has happened.

“It was certainly not an intentional thing to put the cat image up there but s*** happens,” he said. “If I can make everybody laugh for a moment at my expense, I’ll take it.”

Ponton also told Vice that the hearing was being held for a man who was trying to exit the US with illicitly-obtained cash and contraband.

“It was taken off and we had the hearing as normal,” he said of the kitten filter.

Judge Ferguson later took to Twitter and wrote: “IMPORTANT ZOOM TIP: If a child used your computer, before you join a virtual hearing check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off.

“This kitten just made a formal announcement on a case in the 394th.”
