A generous plumber was praised online after fixing pipes and boilers for elderly and sick customers and refusing payment from them.
The kind-hearted 52-year-old plumber James Aderson says that he has helped thousands of elderly and others in need after starting a not-for-profit company Depher.
His generous work was spread online after a 91-year-old woman with acute leukemia posted a picture of her £0 bill online.
The receipt from the boiler repair had a note attached saying, “No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.”
He said regarding the picture online, “We didn’t expect it. It’s been everywhere.”
The repairman is originally from Liverpool, has worked to raise funds by donations and crowdfunding to help people in the Lancashire area.
The kind-hearted repairman started Depher after seeing an incident of a plumber scamming an elderly man by blocking his hot water supply.
Anderson has provided his services since 2017 for those who need help throughout winters.
He says that after switching to a not-for-profit company he has fallen into debts of around £8,000 but says that the situation is getting better.
Anderson says, “A lot of people close to me ask: why are you getting yourself into debt? Why are you doing this?
“To me, debt is debt… I would rather owe some money to somebody and another person be alive and happy and safe.
“It’s an ethos that’s in my heart and it will always stay there.”
After his good deeds spread across the internet, donations have reached £20,000 which brought him to tears.
He said, “I’m overwhelmed. It makes you realize how kind people are and how amazing our country is. I don’t think I’m doing anything particularly kind. I’m just doing what I feel is the right thing.”
After helping the Lancashire locals for the past two years, Anderson is now wanting to take Depher’s work to all over the country.
“I’ve spoken to quite a few engineers around the country and they’re all for it… it’s just getting the funding,” he said.
“I don’t want any person who is elderly and disabled in this country, in this day and age, to die or suffer because of a cold home or a lack of funding to repair the boiler.
“It shouldn’t be happening – that number should be down to zero. Simple as that.”
