Kim Jong-Un is reportedly in a coma and his sister Kim Jo Yong is
set to take control, a South Korean diplomat has claimed.
An ex-diplomate told a local media that the dictator is ready to hand over power to his sister because of his deteriorating health.
Chang Song-min, the ex-aide to late-South Korean president Kim Dae-Jung, told South Korean media: “I assess him to be in a coma, but his life has not ended.”
Chang Song-min also said that Kim Jong-Un’s sister, Kim Yo-jong, is in prime position to take control of some of his powers.
He added: “A complete succession structure has not been formed, so Kim Yo-jong is being brought to the fore as the vacuum cannot be maintained for a prolonged period.”
Kim Yo-jong has been given partial power to manage general state affairs, easing Kim Jong-Un’s workload, The Guardian reported.
She is now in charge of North Korean policy towards South Korea and the US, making her Kim’s de-facto deputy, said spy chiefs.
The shift of power also means other top officials will be given greater authority.
Kim Yo-Jong seems to be ready to take over as she has been outspoken in the past. In July, she said that meetings with the US and North Korea did not have to continue.
“I am of the view that the DPRK-US summit talks is not needed this year and beyond, and for our part, it is not beneficial to us unless the U.S. shows decisive change in its stand,” she said, Yonhap news agency reported.
“Moreover, I think that we should not accept an offer of the summit talks this year, no matter how badly the US wants it, far from talking about its possibility.”
