Keeping law and order is a serious business which is why police officers are (ideally) well-trained and well-equipped in order to more ably fulfill their vow of “serving and protecting.” However, the people who work in law enforcement are human too and they need a way to blow off some steam especially if it’s the height of summer.

That’s why a group of neighborhood kids was surprised when some “heavily-armed” police officers approached them not to apprehend them but to join in on their water fight. The cops were packing a different sort of heat as they came armed with giant water guns called Super Soakers and showed everyone that even cops need to cool off on a hot day!

The officers were from the Dixon Police Department in Illinois and they were widely praised after their bit of fun in the sun was let known to the media. The clips of them playing with the kids quickly went viral and people just can’t get enough of the adorable sight.

It all started when the department took to Twitter to challenge parents to invite them if ever their kids wanted a water fight because the police would only be too happy to comply in light of the soaring temperatures that were hitting three digits. Several parents quickly answered the challenge and the cops decided to oblige each one.

The Dixon PD announced, “We couldn’t have had a better time bonding with our community and this was a great success! Due to that success, future events similar to this will be planned.” Everyone threw their support behind the police who was widely praised for making the effort to unite the community.

This is similar to what happened in North Carolina when someone called the police on a neighborhood slip-n-slide in Asheville. Instead of telling the people to disperse, the responding officers decided to join in on the fun and video of them having the time of their lives quickly went viral.

That was really awesome and if one had any doubts at all the police officers can have fun, the previous two stories should prove without a shadow of a doubt that cops are people too who have families of their own. They put their lives at greater risk so that we can live safely and comfortably so it’s only right that they get to enjoy a little bit of good and clean fun when they get the chance.
