Surgeries are miseries that petrify everybody who goes through them.
This is especially applicable for kids. We all are afraid of the strangers, and these are the ones operating on you!
However, a hospital in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, UPMC Susquehanna Health turned out to be different from others. A nurse working at the place proved this by her affection and tenderness for one of the patients.
This patient was no other but a 5-year-old boy, Slade Thompson, who has undergone under the knife twice recently. His mother, Layla Thompson, told about their visits to many doctors to find out why her child walks on his toes.
She added that Slade has been through a lot in 2019 since he was diagnosed with a kid who is a toe walker and hence, went through a surgery in the beginning of the year. He was on a wheelchair for two months.
Ms. Thompson also stated that earlier they were visiting a children’s hospital, so, this time going to an actual hospital was a little difficult for them.
The last surgery that took place was one that cauterized the kid’s adenoids, tonsils and both sides of his nose. Slade wanted to be adored after he woke up from his surgery.
The nurse, Annie Hager, said that usually, kids do not feel content while coming out of anesthesia. She added that the child was crying and wished for his mom to be there beside him.
Since the boy’s mom was not allowed to see her son then, Hager held the kid in her arms. She said that the kid asked her to snuggle with him when she told him that he could not see his mother then. How could she deny after all!
On stepping in, both, the child’s mom and her fiancé, were touched when they saw the nurse cradling the boy. As memories for the kid’s scrapbook, the mother clicked a photograph of the two snugglings.
Later, the picture ended on Facebook as a kind post by her and went viral.
The hospital, UPMC, wrote on Facebook that their nurses’ duties include not only providing care, but also keeping the patients comfortable and calm. It also praised Annie by adding that nurses like her keep their patients cheerful by showing their warm-heartedness.
The child and the mom revisited the hospital to thank the nurse with a hug and a gift. Layla was glad that Annie took care of the child just as she does.
Hager also shared a picture on Instagram stating how the two have brought tears in her eyes twice by their beautiful words and kind actions.
She also stated that these are the reasons why she loves her job. Thompson also gave a very important message for all the parents out there.
She said that the kids do better when they are aware of all the procedures that they will be undergoing and then everything goes smoothly.
She added that if any parent has had a bad experience, it is not necessary that the ones in the future will also be. She suggested that parents must talk to other parents who have experienced similar situations.
Above all, the nurse was supposed to have a day off. However, she was called back since they ran short. This is how the boy got his new best friend, Miss Annie. Do you have or know anybody who has any such best friend?
