Kellyanne Conway has defended Donald Trump as she insisted that many Americans “are better off” thanks to the outgoing president.

As the 53-year-old former senior adviser to Trump, who had the President’s back from 2017 to August 2020, insisted on Maher’s Real Time program, the final months of Trump’s presidency should be spent talking about his achievements.

“You can’t deny that many people are better off,” the Trump 2016 campaign manager said as she praised the president for implementing positive policies, rebuilding the military, and killing terrorists during his term.

“The real disappointment for people like me is that the last two months weren’t spent mostly talking about the accomplishments,” Conway insisted.

While she admitted that Trump should have told the Capitol rioters to get “the hell out of there” sooner, the former special counselor claimed that the people behind the insurrection do not represent the Trump movement.

“I think those murders and marauders insult, not represent, the Trump movement,” Conway said. “74 million [Trump supporters] is not a base – it’s a large percentage of this country.”

After taking a strike at the insurrection by calling it “horrible” and “inexcusable,” Conway went on to suggest that people found “someone who gave them voice and visibility” in President Trump.

“People shouldn’t be mocked for what they wear, how they eat, where they eat, or what they look like. The Trump people are constantly mocked and they felt like they had someone who was giving them more voice and visibility,” she continued.

“If you can match that with policy gains, with deregulation and lower taxes where it matters, I think his legacy with the policy stuff will survive.”
