Strawberries are an excellent source of vitamins C and K and it is the most likable fruit of summer. The polyphenolic and antioxidant content of strawberries makes them beneficial for improving the immune system, preventing various types of cancers, and for reducing the signs of premature aging. We always love buying this fruit but it’s hard at the same time to keep your berries fresh for a long time at home.
But we got a solution which will keep your berries fresh for a long time. First, you need a few materials from the kitchen.
You will need A large bowl or bucket, a strainer, colander, or salad spinner, vinegar, clean/filtered water, paper towels, clean container with breathing holes, lots of yummy Strawberries.
Now, Mix 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water. So, if you are washing a couple pounds of strawberries, use 1 cup of vinegar to 5 cups of water.
Now your berries are ready for their vinegar bath, let the berries sit in the vinegar-water bath, gently moving them to help dislodge any dirt, grime and letting the vinegar kill spores and bacteria.
Then, pour the mixture over your berries until they are all covered. Thicker skinned fruit (like strawberries or blueberries) can be dried in a salad spinner but delicate berries such as raspberries and blackberries should be dried on a towel, patting them with paper or cloth towels.
Once most of the water has been removed, lay your strawberries out in a single layer on clean kitchen towels and allow to air-dry.
It will take probably around 15-20 minutes, but this trick will save your berries.
