The niece of Vice President Kamala Harris has been facing backlash and calls for an apology after her disturbing post about the Colorado shooting.

Shortly after 21-year-old Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa killed ten people, including a police officer, at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, Meena Harris took to social media to share her thoughts on the matter.

“The Atlanta shooting was not even a week ago. Violent white men are the greatest terrorist threat to our country,” the controversial author wrote hours after the shooting.

Days after the massacre, however, Harris was forced to remove her tweet after it came to light that the shooter was in fact a Syrian-American who arrived in the States after leaving Syria with his family at the age of 3.

“I deleted a previous tweet about the suspect in the Boulder shooting. I made an assumption based on his being taken into custody alive and the fact that the majority of mass shootings in the US are carried out by white men,” the 36-year-old wrote in a follow-up tweet on March 23.

As the VP’s niece clearly admitted in her tweet, she assumed the gunman was white rather than wait for official statements related to the matter.

Meena previously faced criticism after selling a range of feminist clothing products under her aunt’s name despite being told by the White House not to implicate the name of the Vice President with her Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign.

While the 36-year-old eventually ditched her ‘MVP’ [Madam Vice President] products from the Phenomenal website, she reportedly continued to sell the products under Kamala’s name via Social Goods.
