Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Is Laid To Rest At Arlington National Cemetery


Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been laid to rest beside her husband in a private ceremony that took place at Arlington National Cemetery.

As the Supreme Court announced on September 18, the 87-year-old, who served as an Associate Justice for 27 years, had passed away at her Washington, DC home.

“Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died this evening surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, D.C., due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer. She was 87 years old,” the official statement of the Supreme Court read.

“Justice Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Clinton in 1993. She was the second woman appointed to the Court and served more than 27 years.”

Following her passing, Ginsburg’s casket was placed at the top of the steps at the Supreme Court where members of the public had the chance to pay their respects to the second woman in history to serve as a Justice on the highest court in the country.

After her burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Ginsburg has become the 14th Justice to be laid to rest at the cemetery. She was buried next to her husband, Martin Ginsburg, who had passed away back in 2010 after a battle with cancer.

The couple’s graves are located at the cemetery’s Section 5 where the families of the deceased have the right to choose how the headstones, which are white and plain elsewhere at the cemetery, will look like.

As for the Ginsburg couple, their gravestone is black and features the Star of David at the top. May they rest in peace.
