After unrecognizable photos showed the actor looking pale and ill, Johnny Depp has sparked fear and concern among fans. However, his sick-looking appearance could be because of ditching his ‘guyliner’ style.
The 54-year-old actor looked like he was make-up free in photos with fans that were shared on Instagram last week.
Owner of Pouts & Pinups and celebrity make-up artist Stacey Whittaker told Femail that leaving his signature smokey eye has had a significant impact on the actor’s appearance.
“Usually Johnny Depp as a cool grunge style, however here he is not sporting his signature smudged guy-liner, which makes his eyes appear smaller,” she said.
“Dark eyes can look harsh as we get older, but Depp’s normal sultry looking eye would never overpower his face and would actually give him more definition and colour.
“Without his attention-grabbing guy-liner it makes his eyes seem tired and dull, and his skin extremely pale, whereas liner would brighten and bring out the whites of the eye.”
There’s no doubt that fans are used to seeing the actor wearing heavy make-up for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean as Captain Jack Sparrow. But his love of eyeliner also extends to his personal life.
Even at photocalls for his films or on the red carpet, he is always seen wearing a smudge of black kohl around his eyelids.
Fears and concerns for Johnny Depp arose recently when he posed for two pictures with female fans in St. Petersburg.
The women immediately posted the photos on social media, sparkling comments about the actor’s pale appearance.
“I think that my hero looks ill,” one fan wrote on Facebook, while another person said that Johnny Depp ‘looks thin’.
Some didn’t seem to recognize the actor at all.
“F*** me is that Johnny Depp?” one Twitter user commented.
