Joe Biden reportedly called the National Guard chief to apologize after thousands of soldiers were seen sleeping at a parking lot after they got kicked from the Capitol building.

The President’s apology follows shortly after a group of some 5,000 National Guard troops, who remained at Capitol Hill following the January 6 insurrection, was forced to make camp at a parking garage where all of the soldiers shared one bathroom with just two stalls.

“Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage. We feel incredibly betrayed,” one Guardsman said of the situation.

Hours after the soldiers were crammed into the garage, Sen. Tammy Duckworth confirmed that the troops were allowed to return to the Capitol from where they were kicked out by the Capitol Police earlier on Thursday due to heavy foot traffic.

“Just made a number of calls and have been informed Capitol Police have apologized to the Guardsmen and they will be allowed back into the complex tonight,” Sen. Tammy Duckworth wrote on Thursday.

After the news of the poor conditions the National Guard troops were exposed to made rounds on the internet, lawmakers and members of the public have called for better treatment of soldiers who maintained order at the Capitol following the riot.

According to the reports, President Biden personally called the National Guard Bureau chief to apologize for the situation. He allegedly also asked what he could do to help resolve the issue.
