President Joe Biden called the situation at the border a ‘crisis’ as he played golf on Saturday at the Wilmington Country Club.
He told reporters that his administration is committed to lifting the refugee cap and claimed that those who would address the matter were busy “working on the crisis that ended up on the border with young people.”
The president added: “We couldn’t do two things at once. And now we are going to increase the number.”
White House officials and Biden have refused to call the border situation a ‘crisis’ and just labeling it a ‘problem’ and other synonyms.
The president went to Wilmington Country Club, only a ten-minute drive from his home in Greenville.
He was joined by Ron Olivere, the late Beau Biden’s father-in-law and Counselor to the President Steve Ricchetti.
However, many Republicans questioned his decision to play golf amid the growing crisis at the border.
Vice President Kamala Harris also came under fire for not visiting the southern border.
Many GOP lawmakers have traveled to the border over the last weeks and toured processing and holding facilities. They also shared photos of unaccompanied children being held in pens where they were only given mylar blankets.
Harris said that she is planning a trip to Mexico and Guatemala but she has no plans to tour the overcrowded migrant camps as Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is ‘responsible’ for the border, reports say.
Republicans said that not stopping by at the border was ‘despicable’ and claimed that the vice president is directly responsible for the horrific conditions experienced by thousands of minors.
“The President has asked Secretary Mayorkas to address what is going on at the border,” she told reporters. “I have been asked to address the root causes.”
Republican House Whip Steve Scalise told Daily Mail in reference to Harris and Biden: “Shame on them.”
