He had fallen badly at his home in Georgia and needed stitches around his brow but his representative said he ‘feels fine.’

That same day, he showed up at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville with his wife to encourage volunteers of their building project.

The former president started the evening with a prayer, “With our freedom, every one of us can make a basic decision. … ‘What kind of person do I, myself, choose to be?’”

He also said that every person ‘can be a complete success in the eyes of God.’

Carter started his speech by explaining his injury. “I wanna explain my black eye. I got up this morning… I was getting ready for church, right after that we had a family reunion and we were coming to Nashville. I fell down and hit my forehead on a sharp edge and I had to go to the hospital.

“And they took 14 stitches in my forehead and my eye’s black if you noticed. But I had a number one priority and that was to come to Nashville to build houses!”
