94-year-Old Jimmy Carter is now back to building houses for the homeless after undergoing hip surgery last spring.
The former President has been volunteering to help build houses for more than three decades with Habitat for Humanity.
A spokesperson for the Carter Center said that the former President, also the longest living American President, that he and his wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, will build 21 new homes in Tennessee.
“There have been many times when people have tried to count President Carter out, and they have never been right. We are excited that they will both be back,” said Bryan Thomas, a spokesperson for Habitat for Humanity International.
Three months after breaking his hip in May, Jimmy Carter is back again on his feet. He will help build houses in the Park Preserve neighborhood in Nashville along with other volunteers and future homeowners.
Jimmy and his wife have helped build over 4,300 homes in 14 countries. Before he broke his hip, he had last worked in the 2018 Cater Work Project in Indiana.
After the former president broke his hip, he was told to take complete rest. Jimmy put on hold his teaching classes but only a few weeks after surgery, he resumed teaching at Maranatha Baptist Church.
In 2015, he was diagnosed with cancer after doctors discovered four spots of cancer spreading to his brain. He first believed he only had a very short time to live and said to CNN: “I have had a wonderful life. I’m ready for anything and I’m looking forward to a new adventure. It is in the hands of God, whom I worship.”
