In their pre-recorded video message for the Super Bowl pregame speech, the First Couple addressed fellow Americans and thanked frontliners for keeping the rest of us safe during the pandemic.

The couple also went on to encourage people to social distance and wear face masks before requesting a moment of silence to honor over 460,000 Americans who died from Covid-19.

“Before kickoff, we wanted to thank all of the frontline healthcare heroes, both at the game and watching across the country,” Dr. Jill Biden said.

“You put yourself at risk to keep the rest of us safe. You and your families carried us through this year with courage, compassion and kindness. We couldn’t have made it without you. With all of our hearts, thank you.”

The POTUS then added: “And as we thank you and all of our essential workers, let’s remember we all can do our part to save lives. Wear masks, stay socially-distanced, get tested, get vaccinated when it’s your turn, and most of all let’s remember all those who we’ve lost.”

The president also went on to call for a moment of silence to pay tribute to those lost amid the pandemic.

“So please join us, the Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the National Football League in a moment of silence for the more than 440,000 Americans who lost their lives in this pandemic and for their loved ones who are left behind,” he added.

Rather than responding with a moment of silence, however, Super Bowl fans retaliated by booing.

After the bizarre incident, some netizens were quick to share their disgust over the crowd’s response to the call for a moment of silence on social media. Others, however, appeared to defend the Super Bowl fans saying they were booing at the First Couple and not at Biden’s request.
