Jill Biden, 69, offered words of wisdom about divorce during her first solo interview as First Lady.
In an interview with Kelly Clarkson, Dr. Jill discussed the challenges of moving on from a past relationship but shared the good that can come from those changes.
She also told the American Idol winner that the first thing she will do after the pandemic is eat French fries and drink a martini.
“’I want to tell you Kelly. I mean, this is what I’d say to you if I was your mother,” Jill told Clarkson.
“You know, my mother always said to me things are going to look better tomorrow. And if you can take one day at a time – and things will get better.”
The First Lady, who divorced from her first husband Bill Stevenson, continued: “I look back on it now and I think, if I hadn’t got divorced, I wouldn’t have met Joe. I wouldn’t have the beautiful family that I have now.
“So, I really think things happen for the best.”
Stevenson also said the same thing to Daily Mail last August. “I’m not bitter because, if it wasn’t for my divorce, I would never have met my wife Linda and she’s the greatest thing in my life,” he expressed.
Dr. Biden further said: “I think Kelly, over time – I don’t know how long it’s been for you – but over time you heal, and you’re going to be surprised and I can’t wait till that day comes for you.”
The singer-turned-host appeared inspired by the First Lady’s words.
“You’re going to call me up (one day). You’re going to call me up and say, ‘Hey, Jill. You were right.’”
