Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has donated a whopping $100 million to feed hungry mouths across America amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As the tech mogul announced, he donated the sum to Feeding America, whereas the organization will distribute the funds throughout their network of food banks.
From there, the money will be used to feed financially unstable families and those most affected by the raging pandemic.
“Even in ordinary times, food insecurity in American households is an important problem, and unfortunately COVID-19 is amplifying that stress significantly,” the Amazon boss wrote.
“Non-profit food banks and food pantries rely in large part on surplus food from a range of food businesses.
For example, many restaurants donate excess food. But during this time of social distancing, restaurants are closed, and many other normal channels of excess food have also shut down. To make matters worse, as supply is dwindling, demand for food bank services is going up.
”
As the billionaire went on to say, Feeding America will distribute the donated funds through their network in order for “countless families who need” food to receive help.
Urging fellow Americans to join his cause, Bezos, who recently came under fire after Amazon manager reported getting fired for protesting against dangerous working conditions, added:
“Feeding America is the largest non-profit focused on food security. Millions of Americans are turning to food banks during this time. If you want to help, the link to Feeding America is in my bio. They’d be excited and grateful for donations of any size.”
