Even though he looks tough, Jason Momoa claims that his life at home is way different saying that he is frightened of his wife.
In the latest interview with Men’s Health Magazine, Jason talked about the aspects of his relationship with his wife, Liza Bonet.
Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa, 42, is an American actor and producer. He has portrayed Arthur Curry also known as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) since 2016. He headlined an eponymous 2018 film and will reprise his role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2022).
Lilakoi Moon, 53, known professionally as Lisa Bonet, is an American actress and activist. She starred in two of the comedian Bill Cosby’s productions on NBC, The Cosby Show (1984–1992) and A Different World (1987–1993).
In 2005, Lisa began a relationship with actor Jason and they got married in October 2017. Jason and Lisa have two children: a daughter born in July 2007, and a son born in December 2008.
Jason can’t help but laugh at the idea that he looks as intimidating as his characters can make him seem. But the truth is, he’s “absolutely terrified” of Lisa and this description of their home life may be the only thing more loveable than Jason himself.
The Aquaman actor has opened up about what it’s like in lockdown with his wife and he admits right away that he’s no traditional “man of the house.”
“I may look big and tough, but I’m not,” Jason said. “I’m nothing like Khal Drogo. I’m not even the king of my own house! I’m absolutely terrified of my wife.”
“My wife is very sophisticated and smart and (our kids and I are) kind of like animals that need to be trained a little better,” Jason added. “I’m constantly a work in progress, and I’ve just been trying to get better as a father and a husband.”
The actor also revealed that when coronavirus came with months of quarantine, he was obliged to spend all his waking hours with her and their two kids.
“We’ve all gotten so much closer,” Jason told Men’s Health.
He also explained that he and Lisa, who live with their kids, daughter Lola, 13, and Nakoa-Wolf, 12, doesn’t have a TV. The little ones don’t have phones either, so there’s a lot of swimming, hiking with the family’s three dogs, and listening to or playing music.
The couple met face-to-face in a New York jazz club in 2005 and have been together ever since. And despite Jason’s jests about his wife’s scary side, it would appear that they are very happy together.
Speaking with James Corden, Jason also revealed that he had been infatuated with Lisa since he was a kid after watching her in the role of free-spirited Denise Huxtable in The Cosby Show.
“Ever since I was like, eight years old and I saw her on the TV, I was like, mommy, I want that one,” Jason said. “I’m like, I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you”.
“I didn’t tell her that until we had two babies, otherwise, I’d be creepy and weird,” he added. “But yeah, just always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always.”
Jason recalled that, when he and Lisa began dating in 2005, he was a 26-year-old “mess”, she was 12 years older and more polished, but he asked her out anyway. It was a very uncomfortable moment for him.
“When you meet someone you’re completely infatuated with and then find out she’s amazing, intelligent, and funny, and she’s a goddess and you’re a degenerate,” he said.
In a 2018 interview with Porter magazine, Lisa has also spoken out about her love for her husband, describing him as an “alpha male who stands for love and family”.
“Jason embodies a rare form of masculinity in this day and age, he’s a leader, he’s generous,” Lisa said. “Just in terms of charisma, physique, the right use of power, responsibility, work ethic, you can go down the line.”
Although it was previously believed that the couple got married on November 15, 2007, the couple did not marry until October 2017.
Through his marriage to Lisa, Jason is the stepfather to Zoë Kravitz, Lisa’s daughter with ex-husband, musician Lenny Kravitz. Lisa gave birth to their daughter Zoë Isabella Kravitz on December 1, 1988. She and Kravitz divorced in 1993.
