Jars of human tongues were discovered in a home in Florida during a house inspection.
Multiple containers of tongues are believed to have belonged to a pathologist, Dr. Ronald Baughman, who worked at the University of Florida in the 60s and 70s.
Dr. Baughman said he wanted to use the specimens for another research and kept human tongues in a small area of the house he shared with his ex-wife. The two had just forgotten about the jars stored under their house.
The white containers are labeled with dates and names, and according to reports, they hold about a gallon of human remains.
In an interview with the LADbible, Bryce, a home inspector, said: “The crawlspace is a dark dirty space under some houses that folks typically find to be very claustrophobic. As a foundation inspector I crawl through these spaces on my stomach to assess structural damage.
“Under this particular house I discovered over half a dozen plastic gallon sized jars with metal lids. Each jar had a handwritten first name on its exterior. One jar’s lid was missing due to rust and I shone my flashlight inside to see a large plastic bag and what I thought were bones.”
“I removed the bag which was heavily stained on its interior. I had to manipulate the bag to get the contents to a spot of the bag that was still see-through,” he continued.
“I can’t tell you how relieved I am to learn that they belonged to a renowned physician who had authority to posses them and had simply forgotten them. I’m so relieved that they weren’t little innocent victims.”
A spokesperson for the Gainesville Police Department said: “We’ve got no indication that they were trying to hide anything from us or be deceptive about anything.
“They’ve been forthcoming from the get-go. That’s why in our preliminary investigation we don’t think we have anything criminal, we just need to verify everything.”
