Iran has threatened to attack Israel if the U.
S. aircraft carrier in their region decided to launch an assault on the country.
The authorities of Iran have spoken out and warned the U.S. about a potential war after Pentagon deployed dozens of B-52 bombers and the USS Lincoln aircraft carrier to the Middle East in an attempt to counter Iran’s “clear indications” of a threat.
In a conference, Ali Motahhari, the vice speaker of the Iranian Parliament’s, said the U.S. military presence in the region started a “psychological” war. On top of that, he warned the States there would be retaliation if they launched an attack on Iran.
“The US military forces’ deployment in the Persian Gulf is more of the nature of psychological warfare. They are not ready for a war, especially when Israel is within our range,” the vice speaker told FARS.
Mr. Motahhari’s statement matches that of Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the leader of the Revolutionary Guard’s air force, who accused the U.S. of posing a “serious threat” and warned retaliation would be inevitable in case of an attack.
“An aircraft carrier that has at least 40 to 50 planes on it and 6,000 forces gathered within it was a serious threat for us in the past,” Hajizadeh said in an interview with the Iranian Students’ News Agency.
“But now it is a target and the threats have switched to opportunities. If [Americans] make a move, we will hit them in the head.”
Besides having Islamist allies in Lebanon, Iran also has a treaty with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and a number of missiles within the range of Israel.
Speaking of the escalating tensions, Israel’s former finance minister, Yuval Steinitz, added:
“Things are heating up. I wouldn’t rule anything out. Iran may fire rockets at Israel. The American sanctions are breaking the neck of the Iranian economy, and a new and stronger wave is still to come.”
