People have been left puzzled by an optical illusion that features what appears to be a sinking ship at first sight.
As many people suggested after taking a look at the picture below, they instantly thought they were looking at a sinking ship when they saw the metal object surrounded by what appears to be deep blue sea reflecting sunlight.
After taking a closer look, however, you will notice that there is something very fishy going on with our ship.point 397 |
For one, there is a bunch of fat wires popping out of it.point 45 | There are also several unusually large screws that appear to be holding the vessel together.point 123 | Furthermore, the ‘sea’ around the ‘ship’ is clearly not made of water.point 190 | 1
So now that it’s clear we’re not looking at a ship here, do you have any ideas what the thing in the photo could be?

What you’re looking at is actually the base of a broken antenna located on top of a dark vehicle. “My broken antenna on my car looks like a half-sunken boat,” the person who uploaded the photo on Reddit wrote.
After the photo went viral, people were quick to admit they thought they were starring at a sinking boat before finally realizing just how ridiculous that hypothesis seems.
“Dude that’s insane, almost made me dizzy til my brain finally figured it out,” someone wrote.
“I glanced at the title and looked at the pic. Then I wondered how anything about an antenna could supersede that fact that this boat was completely underwater,” another one said.
As many netizens admitted, they were left embarrassed knowing how long it took them to figure the photo out.
Explaining the origins of the photo, the uploader later added: “I took a picture of it a couple of days ago, to show to the collision center, and just looked at it now in my photos. I wondered why I had taken a picture of a boat sinking.”
