A mother of identical twin sisters with Down syndrome was advised to abort her babies six times and bombed with condolences for the babies’ condition even before they were born.
The thirty-nine-year-old, Rachael Prescott, from Monmouth, Oregon, said that during her pregnancy with girls Annette and Charlotte, who are not one, and even after the girls were born, she was showered with condolences as well as advice to prepare for the sister’s health problems after she discovered they may possess the genetic condition.
Rachel and Cody, her thirty-two-year-old husband, were told that their twins would need open-heart surgery just after their birth because of congenital heart diseases when they were a few months pregnant.
They were also confused about why the doctors were more concerned about the girls potentially having Down syndrome.
But Rachael, who is a stay-at-home parent, also a mother of six-year-old Easton, and four-year-old Hudson and Cody, a trainee pilot, were ecstatic and excited to meet their tiny tots.
The one-in-a-million pair of identical girls were diagnosed with Down syndrome in 2018 at their birth.
The parents of the girls are more than happy that the girls have survived despite the possibility of them suffering from a heart condition.
As per Rachael, the twins are her miracles because the chance of having an identical pair of girls with Down syndrome is one in a million.
The mother said that during her first prenatal appointment when she was eight weeks pregnant, six specialists looked at the scans and presented the same result, that the girls may possess Down syndrome, but they surely have serious heart defects.
The six doctors suggested her to terminate her pregnancy but the couple was more than excited to welcome two new members in their family.
