Larry Flynt’s daughter, Theresa Flynt, was with his father and his wife when he died at Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, NBC News reported.

It was in the 1970s when Flynt launched ‘Hustler,’ a print extension of the adult club Hustler that featured naked hostesses.

Flynt had been using a wheelchair since 1978 after Joseph Paul Franklin tried to kill him. The serial killer reportedly shot Flynt and attorney Gene Reeves, but the gunman was never convicted.

His life was made into a movie in 1996, The People vs Larry Flynt, starring Woody Harrelson, Courtney Love, and Edward Norton.

In 1998, Flynt tied the knot with his former nurse Elizabeth Berrios. He was married five times and had five children.

Flynt also told the magazine that Althea, his fourth wife who died of AIDS in 1987, will always have a special place in his heart.

In 1983, Rev. Jerry Falwell sued Flynt after the magazine published a satirical ad claiming the televangelist had an incestuous relationship with his mother in an outhouse. But Flynt appealed to the Supreme Court and won.

Chief Justice William Rehnquest wrote in his opinion for the case: “Were we to hold otherwise, there can be little doubt that political cartoonists and satirists would be subjected to damages awards without any showing that their work falsely defamed its subject.”
