As the parents, who were on the road together with their four kids, crashed with the heavy goods vehicle, the mother and her three children, 4-year-old Amelia, 8-year-old Phoebe, and 6-year-old Simeon, died on the spot.

While the father and his only surviving child, an 18-month-old daughter, are still believed to be in a “serious” condition, they are allegedly “showing signs of improvement and are expected to make a recovery.”

As a source from the local church that the family had been visiting on a weekly basis explained in an interview with The Sun, Joshua was made aware of the situation.

According to the source, the 30-year-old father is “devastated” but will stay strong knowing that he has his youngest daughter to look after.

Shortly prior to the tragic accident, the Powell family suffered a house fire that forced them to move out of their rented home in Chinnor. After losing their home, the family had moved several times before starting afresh at another end-terrace property in Chinnor back in August.

“They never came home. When we saw them named in the media as being the victims of the A40 crash, my heart sank,” the family’s neighbor said of the moment they learned of the deadly accident.

“They were a very close family and despite the setbacks they’d had recently with the fire at their last home, they seemed really happy and positive.

“It’s such awful news. Zoe and Josh and the kids were really well liked, they had a lot of friends around here despite only living here since the end of summer.”

Paying a tribute to fellow parishioners were also Peter and Christine Brown who praised the family for taking their faith seriously.

“They were such a nice family, you couldn’t ask for better people. They were both really involved with the church and took their faith seriously. Zoe used to teach the bible to teenagers from her home part time,” Peter said.

Following the accident, Good Samaritans have started a fundraiser for Joshua and his daughter and managed to raise over £50,000 ($64,000) for the cause.

Sending prayers for the family during these tough times.
