A husband has been arrested after he posed with his pregnant wife on top of a cliff before he allegedly pushed her to her death.
40-year-old Hakan Aysal was on a holiday in Butterfly Valley in Turkey when he allegedly murdered his heavily pregnant.
Semra Aysal, 32, and her unborn baby were killed instantly.
According to reports, the couple had been taking photos on the cliff for hours and prosecutors believe that the ‘accident’ was actually a murder.
The indictment prepared against Aysal states that the husband “planned the murder of his wife by first taking out a personal accident insurance on her behalf with a guarantee of 400,000 Turkish Lira and where the only beneficiary was himself.”
Prosecutors also claimed that the reason they stayed on top of the cliff for three long hours was to make sure he could carry out his plan with no other people around.
The indictment also said that the husband had claimed the insurance payment but was eventually declined when news of the investigation broke out.
The Fethiye High Criminal Court heard from the woman’s brother Naim Yolcu: “When we went to the Forensic Medicine Institute to get the body, Hakan was sitting in the car. My family and I were destroyed, but Hakan did not even appear sad.”
“My sister was always against taking out loans. However, after she died, we learned that she had three loans taken by Hakan on behalf of my sister,” he added.
“Also, Semra had a fear of heights, what extreme sport is she going to be doing when she is scared of heights?”
Aysal denied being responsible for his wife’s death. He said: “After taking a photo, my wife put the phone in her bag. Later she asked me to give her the phone.
“I got up and then heard my wife scream behind me when I walked a few steps away to get the phone from her bag. When I turned back, she was not there. I did not push my wife.”
