An estranged husband killed his ex and her daughter before taking his own life in suspected double-murder suicide in Scotland.
The grisly incident took place in Kilmarnock where 40-year-old Steven Robertson stabbed his ex-partner, 39-year-old Emma Robertson Coupland, and her 24-year-old daughter, Nicole Anderson.
According to the reports, the man initially killed his wife, who was an NHS worker, outside a local hospital just before 8 pm. He then went after the woman’s daughter, who worked at a nearby store, and stabbed her just 20 minutes after committing his first murder. The victim was rushed to the hospital and later passed away.
Following the two attacks, Robertson drove to a nearby viaduct where he crashed his car and died at the scene.
Shortly before the gruesome killings, the 40-year-old took to Facebook to accuse his estranged wife of being a “sick, evil” woman who turned their kids away from him.
In an official statement, Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain confirmed that an investigation is still undergoing and that there is no widespread threat to the community.
“We are working to confirm the full circumstances of what has happened. If anyone has any information which could assist our enquiries, please do contact us,” the police chief said.
“Understandably, people will be shocked by what has happened. We are still in the process of establishing the full circumstances.
“I would like to reassure people there is no wider threat to the community. Officers will be on patrol and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.”
Meanwhile, the community has been left shocked and shattered by the suspected double-murder suicide.
“Following on from the tragic incidents in and around Kilmarnock last night, our thoughts are with all the families and individuals affected by these events,” East Ayrshire Council expressed in a statement.
“We know our communities will be shocked and saddened by these events, but we wish to reassure them that there is no risk to the general public at this time and we are supporting our colleagues in NHS Ayrshire & Arran and Police Scotland wherever we can.”
