Joe Biden’s son Hunter has revealed he is under a federal investigation over his taxes and foreign business dealings.
As the president-elect’s son confirmed in a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware is investigating his tax affairs.
According to The Associated Press, the Justice Department is investigating Hunter’s business dealings in foreign countries including China – which have turned out to be politically challenging amid his father’s run for the White House – and not his laptop and its contents.point 518 | 1
“I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” Hunter said in a statement shared by President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team.
“I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”
Along with Hunter’s personal statement, the team also shared an accompanying statement from the Biden-Harris Transition.
“President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger,” Joe Biden’s statement read.
As CNN reported, a probe into Hunter’s business dealings in foreign countries, particularly those in China, can now that the election is over enter the next phase.
According to the publication, two persons with knowledge of the probe confirmed that federal prosecutors are working with the IRS Criminal Investigation agency to investigate whether Hunter and his associates committed any money laundering or tax violations in their foreign business dealings.
