Hunt for Whales Have Turned Blue Water Sea Red

Faroe Islanders have an age-old tradition of slaughtering the whales gruesomely.

This year, the hunt for the whales has turned the sea red with the blood of the whales.

The pilot whales that were found on the shore of Torshavn, which is one of the largest cities in Faroe Islands is the place where many sea creatures migrate.

It is a visual treat for marine lovers to see different marine species on the shore of the sea. However, these creatures slaughter without mercy during the drive into the sea.

It was found by the Blue Planet Society that there are around 130 to 150 pilot whales were killed in the hunt along with 10 to 20 white-sided dolphins. These both species are brutally slaughtered during the hunt for whales.

In 2019, it was revealed that around 500 cetaceans were killed for food. As per the report given by Sea Shepherd UK, the hunt for whales has been completed in a few hours.

The fisherman has laid a trap to catch the whales and put into the blowholes. The pilot whales are dragged forcefully into the sand after are caught in the blowholes where the spinal cords of this species are chopped.

There is a lot of controversy weaved around the slaughtering of whales every year. The pictures of the whales that were slaughtered this year are making rounds on social media.

However, there are many places which have imposed a ban on hunting of dolphins and small whales, especially in Japan and Faroe islands.

There are many campaigns being run to keep this brutal attack on animals at bay. The Blue Planet Society took the signature of around 2, 60,000 people to file a petition and request for a ban on this kind of gruesome practice.

However, the community people residing in Faroe Islands defended this to be their tradition that has been followed for ages together.

The inhabitants of this island stated that they have consumed the meat of Whales and Blubber since the day they came to the island and settled. The whale hunt is a community activity, which is organized at the community level and supervised by the national laws.

It was found that the population of whales in the North Atlantic region would be around 7, 78,000. There are around 1, 00,000 whales dwelling in Faroe Islands and around 800 whales are hunted every year.

The meat of the whales is distributed to the people who take part in this activity. However, Public health authorities gave a serious warning to the people for not consuming this meat, since this poses a serious health threat.
