Police have confirmed that human remains have been discovered from the property of Chad Daybell, the husband of ‘cult mom’ Lori Vallow.
The discovery of the unidentified bodies was announced by Rexburg Assistant Police Chief Gary Hagen at a brief press conference near the Idaho property but added that it was too soon to say whether the bodies belonged to Tyleen Ryan and Joshua ‘JJ’ Vallow, the missing children of Lori.
According to a statement released by the police department, officers are still searching the property for more evidence connected to the case.
Rexburg Police officers, FBI agents, and Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at Daybell’s home at about 7 am with a search warrant.
A video from the East Idaho News showed authorities digging up soil around what looked like a well. At about 11:30 am, officers were seen handcuffing Daybell and putting him in a police car.
Hagen said Daybell was not officially arrested or facing any charges but had been taken in for questioning.
Lori Vallow, who has been jailed on charges of desertion and abandonment in connection with the disappearance of her children, tied the knot with Daybell – a former gravedigger and alleged cult leader – less than two months after her children disappeared.
17-year-old Tylee was last seen on September 8 when she visited Yellow National Park with her family, and the last sighting of 7-year-old JJ was on September 23.
Vallow and Daybell are also being investigated for attempted murder, conspiracy, and murder of Tammy Daybell, Chad’s first wife who mysteriously died in her sleep on October 19. After Chad declined an autopsy, the cause of death was ruled as natural.
The case was reopened after learning that Tylee and JJ were missing as Vallow had married Chad only two weeks after his first wife passed away.
The couple have refused to cooperate with the investigation and repeatedly lied about where Tylee and JJ are. They were named persons of interest after investigators said they believe Vallow knew what happened to her children.
The case gained general attention with revelations that authorities are also investigating three mysterious deaths related to the couple, and relatives’ claims that Vallow and Daybell are members of a doomsday cult.
