Texas EquuSearch was searching the areas in Bell County to help in locating the missing U.S. Army soldier when they found the human remains in Coryell County, close to where the body of Gregory Wedel-Morales was found ten days ago.

The founder of Texas Equusearch, Tim Miller, said, “We know it’s a process of elimination so we know where she’s not and we keep moving forward so we can hopefully look forward to the day we can say we know where she is.”

Homicide investigators secured the remains and transferred to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences for further analysis.

Miller said that some of the personal items were found in a river.

Guillen’s family says she had accused a sergeant of sexually harassing her and she didn’t feel safe before she went missing.

The lawyer representing the family, Natalie Khawan, said to Univision Noticias that they asked the military to check surveillance cameras at the base hoping there could be key information that would help them locate Guillen. However, they were told that there were no cameras installed in the area.

Khawan also found the message in Guillen’s phone to be suspicious and said that someone else might’ve sent the message using her phone.

“The serial number of a firearm was sent from Vanessa’s cell phone. This text message is very unusual for us because it is not something that is normally sent between the soldiers of the base,” Khawan said. “So we think that there is a possibility that someone else had sent the message, but the military authorities do not want to tell us the recipient of it.”

Khawan also told ABC13 that her client once said that a superior walked in while she was taking a shower and another superior verbally harassed her. Guillen did not report the incidents as she was afraid of retaliation.
