Dog owners will be fine USD 4000 if they don’t take their pets for a walk regularly.
According to legislation, animals are sentient beings that are able to feel their surrounding and experience various emotions such as pleasure, pain, suffering, etc.
As of March 2020, pet owners in the ACT will have to deal with hefty fine is they keep their dog inside for the whole day and not take them out to exercise and get fresh air.
Owners who keep their dogs in the backyard where there is adequate space to run and play will not be fined under this legislation.
The dogs who are required to stay inside due to some health conditions are also an except to this case.
The ACT government passes an amendment on Thursday that stated that animals could be deemed as confined if their movements are limited within an enclosed space.
Pet owners who fail to provide their dogs with sufficient food, water, exercise, and shelter will be fined USD 4,000.
Furthermore, ACT citizens who are associated with dogfighting and other violent act related to animals will be facing fines of USD 48,000 and imprisonment for three years. Chris Steel, the City Services Minister, stated that this law was long overdue.
The state has witnessed some sad animal abuse incidents and generated a dire need to pass strict laws that enable us to take balanced actions against people who harm animals.
The Australia-first reform was introduced less than 24 hours after the bill to legalize marijuana was passed on Wednesday.
By passing this bill, the legislation aims at providing more security to the animals and ensuring that they are safe inside and outside the houses. People who break these laws have to deal with serious consequences.
