When the news first came out that Molly Hughes had stage four neuroblastoma, her parents were understandably devastated. Molly was only 5 months old at the time.
According to the American Cancer Society, neuroblastoma usually starts at the adrenal glands (on top of the kidneys) and represents half of the cancers that are diagnosed in infants.
Little Molly underwent 15 grueling months of treatments that included surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Fortunately, just over a year after her initial diagnosis, the 1-year-old has now been declared to be officially in remission.
However, the joy of recovery was not limited to Molly’s parents.point 182 | The hospital staff that bore witness to Molly’s courage and will to live were all touched by the wonderful news and they gathered together to sing Molly a beautiful song that encapsulates everyone’s happiness at seeing Molly now having a chance to live a normal life.point 416 | 1
Being in the medical profession can be rewarding but it’s also a stressful place, especially in the cancer ward. More often than not, these people witness the changes that patients undergo, from being strong and jolly human beings to becoming thin shadows of their former selves if their cancer can’t be controlled. And it’s all the more wrenching seeing such a change in infants and children.
And this is why they were so overjoyed at Molly’s recovery. It validates the oath they took when they first became doctors and nurses and makes all the sacrifice and sleepless nights all the more worth it.
Other people have obviously shared the same joy as the video has been liked over 2 million times in the hospital’s Facebook page.
As for Molly, her mother, Chelsea Hughes, posted an update on Facebook that read:
OH, HAPPY DAY!!!! Molly has some BIG news to share!!! Her scans were clear & showed no evidence of disease!! (NED!!!) There is NO active cancer left in her little body!!

She will start a trial drug called DFMO to help keep the cancer away & she will have scans every 3 months to make sure there is no relapse. Please continue to pray that the cancer stays away forever!!

DFMO is a new medication that increases the survival rates of children who have neuroblastoma.
Molly will need to undergo regular tests and screenings for some time yet but compared to the initial diagnosis when her parents were told that she likely wouldn’t even make it to the age of two, going for a lot of check-ups is a whole lot better.
