A hoarder attempted to return 4,800 rolls of toilet paper, along with 150 liters of hand sanitizer, after purchasing the essentials amid shortage related to the coronavirus panic-buying.
The incident was brought to light by John-Paul Drake, the director of the Drakes supermarkets, who took to YouTube to expose the audacity of a hoarder who visited one of his supermarkets in an attempt to get a refund after presumably failing to resell his stock for an inflated price.
As Mr. Drake revealed in his video, he was informed of the request by a receptionist who told him the shopper wanted to return 4,800 rolls of toilet paper and 150 bottles of hand sanitizer.
“He said he wanted to get a refund on 150 32-packs of toilet paper and 150 units of one-liter sanitizer,” the director explained.
“This sort of behavior is disgraceful. He is the sort of person that’s causing the problem in the whole country.”
After the supermarket refused to take back the hoarder supplies, the man sweetened the deal by offering them a 30% discount.
“He had all the receipts, he came back and offered me a 30 per cent discount,” Drake added.
“We have only been selling these items one at a time. He would have had to have come in 150 times to buy them. That’s 150 customers who have missed out.
“We’re all about supporting the local community. I want products bought here to stay here but this is ridiculous.”
According to the supermarket director, the hoarder was most likely reselling the products for an inflated price and working with other shoppers in order to stock up this much essentials in such a short time.
