This is the bizarre moment a driver dressed as Batman was pulled over by police on a busy road in Canada.

Video footage shows a police car with flashing lights approaching the replica Batmobile, before asking the caped crusader to step out of the iconic motor.

In odd scenes, the police officer and Batman lookalike speak briefly before he dramatically disappears back into the car.

None other than Batman himself, or at least a very convincing impersonator, jumps out and talks with the officer from the Ontario Provincial Police.

The man filming the bizarre situation on his phone as he drives then says: ‘What, she let him go? Awesome!’

Since the video went viral, Batman, or Stephen Lawrence as he’s also known, has come forward to say it was him in the costume.

He told CBC Canada that he wasn’t stopped for his driving on Saturday, but simply because the officer wanted to take a photo.

‘I don’t want to get the officer into any trouble at all because … they do get excited when they see something unusual,’ he said.

He said he had flagged the same officer down moments before the footage was taken as he was concerned about people taking photos of his Batmobile while driving.

‘I try to avoid this because not only is it illegal, but also it is unsafe,’ he said.

Lawrence, who dresses up as a superhero because he has a ‘personal connection’ with Batman, said the officer helped move the drivers along.

But a short while later, he said he saw the same officer put on her flashing lights to pull him over.

‘I pulled over, jumped out and I asked the OPP officer, “Is everything OK?”’ he said.

And that was when he says she asked for a photo.
