A woman in India is making heads turn as she rides a motorbike on the streets of New Delhi, India.

Wearing a leather jacket and a headscarf, Roshni Misbah rides her CBR Repsol and Royal Enfield bikes on the streets of New Delhi.

She says that it is her passion and she is fulfilling it despite the motorbikes not being the regular mode of transport for women in India.

Roshni, who is also known as ‘Hijabi Biker’, rode a bike for the first time when she was 14 years old.

She says that her father is a bike enthusiast and she used to travel with her father on a Royal Enfield.

She wanted to ride heavy bikes just like her father and for the past six months, she is fulfilling her dream.

Her father always supported her but other members of her family opposed her bike riding. Even her mother was not happy with her bike riding.

She said: “My mother was scared of all this. She wasn’t happy with bike riding. But then she gave a thumbs up and I am riding a bike now.”

“My uncle objected to the idea. He would ask my father why he had given the permission – ‘This is a men’s job.’ But my father supported me all the time.”

Roshni studies Arab Islamic Culture at Jamia Millia Islamia and says she has supportive friends. Some of them even asked her to teach them how to ride a bike.

Roshni is a part of a biking group in Delhi called Bikerni which is an all-woman group and ride for women empowerment, education, and everything related to women and girls.

She says: “I want all other girls who are passionate about riding bikes to join us and come out of the box. It’s not a sin to ride a bike.”

“The way I have started looking at the world is very different now. When I am on the bike, I feel like I have got wings.”
