The Española Police Department recently released CCTV footage that showed a hero firefighter and another brave man as they shielded innocents during a convenience store shooting at a Giant gas station in Española, New Mexico in June.
Enrico Trujullio, a local firefighter, was one of the men in the video. He moved to quickly shield a female friend when the gunfire erupted.
Speaking to KRQE, Trujullio said: “I saw two people fighting and a crowd started to form outside… I saw a kid walking from the back of a vehicle and he loaded the gun.
“We heard gunshots go off, (my friend) ran into the store in front of me, and my first instinct was just to cover her.”
Surveillance footage shows Trujullio fully covering the woman on the floor for several seconds before they get up and take refuge at the back of the convenience store along with other customers until the shooting stopped.
“I wasn’t sure whether or not they were going to go inside the store,” Trujullio recalled. “Here at work, we are always watching out for one another. One of our main duties is to preserve life and property. I take that seriously.”
Another angle from the footage shows another man, as yet unidentified, who shielded a woman and two children when the shooting started.
On their Facebook page, the Española Police Department wrote: “Watch as this unidentified man takes two children in his arms and shields them with his body as shots were fired in their direction.

“As he went to the ground, he also positioned his body over a woman who was already laying down.
“Without hesitation, this man protected three lives. Thank you, sir, for your bravery.”
The Facebook post received 8,000 views as of Monday night.
No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting and the department stated that two men had been arrested. The names of the suspects have not been released.
