Even with their huge contribution in our country, there are a lot of homeless veterans out there on the street.
As homeless veterans are not getting any care from the country or people around them, they lose their hope and faith in a human being.
John Lochlan was one of those homeless veterans, who didn’t trust anyone after his several years of street life.
During his time on the street, he gave up the society because he felt that the society didn’t care about him. Even when strangers reached him to help, he didn’t trust them.

There were several reasons for him not to believe in people.
While being homeless, he was shot and hit by a car. His spine was damaged and his legs were infected so he couldn’t walk.
As he was suffering from the severe pain, he met Lolly Galvin, a founder of the Dignity Project, which helps homeless people with haircuts, sleeping bags, toiletries, and anything they need. She reached Lochlan and asked if he wanted a haircut.
“I was sitting there the first day and she asked if I needed a haircut. I said No, I’m good because I didn’t really wanna deal with them, but two weeks later my hair was getting out of hand,” Lochlan said.
After the haircut, Galvin noticed his leg infection. She instantly knew he needed the treatment.

“I would come and see him and be like how’s the haircut going and he would be like good, thanks. I gave up on people, I really did. Then we saw him kind of deteriorating, we saw him in a wheelchair, he had an infection in his legs,” she explains to Fox News. “I have never seen someone on the streets in the condition he was in, he was not doing well and I knew he wasn’t doing well. It was kind of like he’s not gonna make it if someone doesn’t help him.”
Galvin stepped in to help him.
She helped him to get his infection treated and surgery for his spine. She started the funding for his treatment and he could finally get the spine surgery and his leg infection treated.
After the surgery and treatment, Lochlan was able to walk! He is staying at the nursery home and recovering. When he was living in the street, he never expected to get the treatment but with the help of Galvin and the Dignity Project, he could start his new life.

He hasn’t found his permanent housing yet but his perspective of looking at the society has changed a lot. He said, “The message is if you give someone a little they can come around, my message is, don’t ever give up on people because there are good people out there.”
While Galvin helped Lochlan, she didn’t stop spreading hope to the homeless community. “I once heard a statistic that a homeless person only hears their name once every three months,” Galvin said. “I think it’s people are tired and burned-out, and don’t have as much time. I’m trying to prove the world is good, and you just have to look a little bit deeper.”
For homeless people, the world is not an easy place to live. They lose hope and faith in people but there are always good people who are willing to help them with love and hope.
