The Duke of Sussex is preaching again about the importance of flexing your mind to achieve ‘peak mental fitness,’ allowing you to build up resilience to grief and trauma.

Prince Harry discussed how he maintains his ‘mental fitness’ daily as he starred in a new campaign video for mental health start-up BetterUp.

“We all have greatness within us,” he said at the beginning of the film. “Mental fitness helps us unlock it. It’s an ongoing practice, one where you approach your mind as something to flex, not fix.”

In the short film, the father-of-two interviews three people about their own mental health practices as he promotes the company’s life coaching services.

The 37-year-old Duke, who lives in a $14 million Montecito mansion with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, shared his experiences of seeing ‘trauma, loss, grief’ while ‘traveling around the world.’

“Throughout the years of traveling around the world, what I saw was the similarities of experiences of trauma, of loss, of grief, of being human,” Harry expressed, adding that it is “absolutely critical to build up resilience” to such emotions by doing mental health exercises.

During the short clip, Harry sat down with three people, including professional snowboarder Chloe Kim, psychologist Adam Grant, and BetterUp member Blue Mendoza, all of whom he asked about how they managed to achieve “mental fitness.”

Grant said that the key is for companies to implement mental healthcare practices, saying: “We all want to grow, but it’s so hard to do that on our own. If we can design individual routines, organizational cultures, team norms that prevent burnout and languishing, it’s a lot easier to maintain peak performance.”

The Duke of Sussex agreed and said: “And the difference it makes is huge.”

Harry also praised Chloe’s confidence, asking how she uses ‘mental fitness’ to reach physical success.

“You are a two-time Olympic gold medalist, hailed as the Queen of Snowboarding. That’s amazing. Is there a day-to-day thing that you do for your mental fitness? What is your secret, like how do you become so good – and stay there?”

The duke also asked how her mental fitness helped her continue to achieve new levels of performance, to which Chloe replied: “I would say… one, just those little reminders: ‘I am doing my best, I am working really hard.’ I have to pivot and find a solution to create a positive outcome.”

She went on: “I know who to turn to when I’m having a hard time, I know how to express and cope with my emotions. And I’m more open now. The relationship between mind and body is very important and it has a lot to do with my success.”

This is not the first time the Duke of Sussex has discussed the need to have better ‘mental fitness.’

In February, Harry shared his own experiences and insisted that companies must give their employees ‘time to focus on themselves.’
